Cover Review: Beowulf (not the classic)

How Not to Design a Book Cover, Lesson 1: Don’t do . . . well, this.

Beowulf: Explosives Detection Dog by Ronie Kendig

How can something be that packed with such a wide variety of stuff, and also be so incredibly stale at the same time? Poor typeface selection and use. Poor photo selection. The dog tag is poorly done. The addition of the quote is either a last minute rush or an afterthought. The vignette is unnecessary, but I can see why they used it: may as well; got everything else in there.

Remember my disclaimer: I don’t necessarily blame a designer for a bad cover.

Cover Designer: Mullerhaus; don’t judge them by this one cover. They have some great work over there.
