Book Review: Simply Grilling
28 March 2012 Book Review
What better book to get a hold of as the warm weather approaches and the grilling season truly begins (here in Bakersfield, grilling season runs about 11 months)? Simply Grilling from Jennifer Chandler is a wonderful addition to our grilling sessions. There are 105 recipes, though not all of them are actually grill-related. One of my favorite recipes was the Grasshopper Icebox Cake, which is a no-bake, ice cream cake. Always a win.
This is a great cookbook. There are delicious ideas throughout. The photos are high quality, and very enticing. The sandwiches are particularly delectable. The added tips and ideas after the recipe and description are very helpful, and really drive you to think more about how to personalize these meals.
If there is a negative I would say I’d like to see her give some recipes for some of the standard ingredients in the recipes. For example, for the Grilled Pizza Margarita, instead of just saying “Unbaked pizza dough,” I would like to see a specific recipe, especially an original one. When utilizing cookbooks, I like to make as much as possible from scratch. Pizza dough is doable for anyone; no need to buy one or send a reader to another cookbook.
Other than that, this is a great addition to the cooking library. It will get plenty of use. Guaranteed.
