Our Spring Garden 2010
This past weekend into Monday our family has been working on getting our front and side yards into shape for planting. While pulling weeds in the front I uncovered three volunteer squash plants coming up! There are also quite a few volunteer sunflowers and one lovely little marigold. Over the winter I planted Swiss chard, watermelon radishes, and a mix of carrots out in the front. Those are coming up nicely and we are hoping to see a harvest of those soon!
In our side yard we planted a nice lawn of regular bermuda and a special mix made for our area that we bought at a local garden store. I also blocked off two areas for our garden. In one area I planted Scarlet Emperor Beans to grow up our gate and look pretty while providing beans at the same time. On the other area I planted Anasazi beans, again to grow up the fence, a mix of sweet peppers, a couple of eggplant, onions, scallions, leeks, huckleberries, and one determinate tomato plant. I should be able to wrangle that small of a patch this summer while still getting some tasty veggies that will help keep our food bill down.
Spring is such an exciting time!
