September 7, 2009View Comments

Now that College Football has jumped out of the blocks, I want to start up my weekly Gators review. Plus, I will touch on the rest of what I’ve seen from the Top 25 and how things look to be headed as we come towards December. Week 1: Florida vs. Charleston Southern Why the heck [...]

Nonviolence, John the Baptizer, and the soldiers of Luke iii.14

August 21, 2009View Comments

I was reading an article recently on the Sojourners blog, God’s Politics, on the soldier court martialed for being a conscientious objector. In the article (and you should read the back story of this brother in Christ who needs our support and prayer), the author, Logan Laituri, brought into the discussion Luke iii.14 and what [...]

Don’t just be called a Christian

August 18, 2009View Comments

I came to these great words from Ignatius of Antioch last night: It is right, therefore, that we not just be called Christians, but that we actually be Christians, unlike some who call a man bishop but do everything without regard for him. Such people do not appear to me to act in good conscience, [...]

Trekking through Misquoting Jesus

August 14, 2009View Comments

I've started to read Bart Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus" and then will get into "Jesus Interrupted" before the library needs them back. I'm not going to do any book reviews, but I will point out some goods and bads that I see for issues that I want to discuss. Other real scholars have covered the books, and I'd point you in their direction for thorough reviews.

Great reason to know your history

August 8, 2009View Comments

The best reason for the serious study of history is that virtually everyone uses the past in everyday discourse. But the historical record on which they draw is abundantly littered with myths, half-truths, and folk history; historians can, or should, provide a corrective for this. This remark applies particularly to the history of Christianity and [...]

Casting away the woman caught in adultery

I'm simply giving my thoughts on what to do about the woman caught in adultery. Not the woman herself, but the story.
