Isa from the Qur’an

O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only an apostle of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His apostles, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one God; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.

The Messiah does by no means disdain that he should be a servant of Allah, nor do the angels who are near to Him, and whoever disdains His service and is proud, He will gather them all together to Himself. (4:171-2)

A clear, open denial of the Trinity, using as the central attacking point not only the fact that Allah would never have a son, but also that Isa is content with his subservient position in relation to Allah.

As I see it, if you were to talk with a Muslim about this subject, the focus must be on who Isa is and not on “What does the Trinity look like?” Heck, you shouldn’t even be concerned with the Trinity at all. Getting into a holy war over whether or not Allah can be three in one or not is missing the point. You’re missing the cart through the trees; putting the forest before the horse; whatever you want to call it.

Take this statement: Isa is Allah.

Do you believe it? Do you believe he is the magnificent one, Lord over all? If so, then that’s your focus. In fact, it must be so much a focus for you that your life displays that Lordship, that divine presence. If your life and the Lordship of Isa do not match up, the Muslim has no reason to doubt or question who Isa is, dictated in the Qur’an by the word of Allah through his prophet.

Why would anyone care for my Christianity if as a Christian I did not submit to Christ?

Note: All citations of the Qur’an are from The Qur’an: Translation, translated by M.H. Shakir, published by Tahrike Tarsile Qur’an, Inc., 2003.
